Bauble Stockings

Bauble stockings are for giving and for giving back.

Several months ago, I needed some fresh design in my life. My stock of stationery was running low, my tablescapes were feeling repetitive, and my tried-and-true sources of inspiration were feeling just a bit stale. While browsing for new inspiration, I came upon Bauble Stockings. This particular design spoke to my heart. My formal china pattern is based in blue, and I am always on the lookout for Christmas décor that will blend seasonal colors and imagery with my blue china. These sweet stockings are perfect!

There is a lovely story behind Bauble Stockings. It is the outgrowth of a family tradition of tucking into a small stocking the special, meaningful and final gift of Christmas. This gift is for mother, with special thanks for all that she has done for the family over the past year.

The founder of Bauble Stockings, Kate Stice Stewart, partners with Good Threads Needlepoint to employ hundreds of Haitian women who hand stich the stockings. These women earn a living wage stitching stockings in all sorts of seasonal patterns. The pattern I love, Holiday Trimmings, is from a partnership with Holly Hollon and Dogwood Hill.

While I love the Bauble Stocking tradition, we use ours for a different tradition: Reverse Show and Tell Christmas. In our family, we exchange cash gifts early in the season, shop for ourselves, and then reveal the gifts we chose on Christmas. Bauble stockings are just the right size for cash or a check, and are a beautiful means of presenting a gift. After our cash gifts have been exchanged, the stockings are incorporated into our seasonal décor and provide a sweet reminder that the “show and tell” fun of Christmas giving is coming soon!

The stockings layer beautifully with my china.

And they look darling paired with a faux boxwood wreath on the back of a chair!

Beautiful décor sets the scene for celebrations. Pieces that are thoughtfully sourced, hand-made, and give back do so much more. They amplify that which is good, contribute to a healthy society, and strengthen the human family. And that makes for a truly special holiday.

Kind regards,
